I am a secondary school digital technology teacher. Education has been an incredible journey for me! I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach in many different countries and subject areas, best of all technology which is something that I truly enjoy.
My purpose as an educator is to help create a better future. The next generation will have significant challenges to overcome on a global scale and expectations of young people are higher than ever. I see my role as a technology educator not only to help young people learn technology but how to be digital citizens in an increasingly digital world.
Education is a pillar of society. Good education is fundamental to good quality of life. In a just society every individual must be given equal opportunity for a good life and therefore a good education.
I believe:
Education is a right; Gender, social class, cultural background and race should not affect that right.
Education should strive to be equitable; Obstructive and unjust barriers to success should be removed wherever possible.
Education should value diversity and inclusion; Learning as a social activity should be open to different ways of thinking and being.
Education is social; Positive relationships and a strong sense of community are necessary for a good learning environment.
Education is ubiquitous; Learning can happen anywhere, anyhow. Education is not restricted to formal learning environments nor traditional methods.
Education is forever; Learning is a lifelong journey and it doesn't stop once you've left the classroom.
Leadership is a social activity that should consider people and context foremost.
Leadership is a process that should be considered carefully and responsibly.
Leadership theory should be applied flexibly and appropriately depending on the situation.
